A few years ago the Ogle/Ogles Family Association, under
the leadership of then president Wayne Ogle, undertook a challenging task of publishing a
comprehensive Ogle Family History-Genealogy, to include every known Ogle and Ogles line in
America. In recent years voluminous amounts of Ogle genealogical material has been collected by
selected assistant editors, editorial coordinators and researchers from the membership of
the Association. As editor-in-chief, Wayne has received material and analyzed data on more
than 80,000 Ogle descendants, their spouses and hundreds of ancestral lines.
Inputting and formatting the data in computer form has been a difficult and
time-consuming task.
A huge amount of work on existing records remains to be donemostly editing and
proofreading by the editorial review boardprior to actual publication. Editors want
to include every family line possible, but the project can no longer be delayed.
With the following exceptions, new material is no longer being added to the
family history. The exceptions are: Corrections to existing data; updates to
existing files; and ancestral lines of old or new members of O/OFA whose family
data have not been included in our master records. This measure is deemed
necessary in order that the family history project can be brought to a close
with the publication of the Ogle book (which may require two or more volumes).
The final date for submission of photographs for the book will be set as
publication date approaches. Notwithstanding the foregoing, everyone descended
from any Ogle line is urged to submit his or her family records, including
ancestors and descendants, in order that raw family data can be held in storage
and later added to the master record.
Anyone not a member of O/OFA, who wishes to have his or her genealogy included in the
book, should join the Association and provide Wayne with the necessary data - the more
complete the data, the more valuable the final published product. Membership in O/OFA is
not compulsory in order to have family data added to the forthcoming book, but many have
benefited in numerous ways from the membership experience. For more information on how to
join the O/OFA, click here.
Historical or genealogical information concerning any branch of the Ogle family that
has not already been submitted to the editors should be forwarded without delay. Some
withhold information on the grounds that they "dont know who their Ogle
ancestors are." O/OFA records are so extensive that editors are frequently able to
locate those "missing links." Editorial coordinators who have accumulated and
withheld information on specific branches of the family "until more information comes
in" or "until the records are complete" should no longer delay the
submission of these materials.
