Twenty-three Ogle descendants from across the United States, including family researchers, historians, and genealogists, convened the first Ogle Family Symposium, Oct. 2-5, 1979, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their purpose was to exchange information, pool and study available data about the Ogle family and establish a viable, official family organization. The Ogle/Ogles Family Association (O/OFA) was established at the October 5, 1979, business meeting. Officers were elected, duties were assigned and clarified. Decisions were reached concerning handling funds, applications for membership, publications of the Association, duties of the editorial board, publicity, and related matters. The Officers and Directors currently serving the O/OFA are here. One year later (1980) the Association had forty-one charter members and ninety-nine regular members located in thirty states. As of June 2004, the Association had over 370 registered members in more than 40 states in the USA as well as representation from other countries. Fifty-nine participants attended the Second Ogle Family Symposium in St. Louis, Missouri, October 13-15, 1988. Members voted to reorganize and formally incorporate. By-laws were approved placing the operation of the Association's affairs under a board of directors composed of four officers and one member at large. In late 1988, the state of Indiana approved the Association's formal application for incorporation. Nearly all of the 100,000+ Ogles in North America are descendants of either John Ogle, immigrant to Delaware (1664), or Samuel Ogle, three times Governor of Maryland (1731-32; 1733-42; and 1747-52). As a teenage soldier, John came with Captain Carr on the British expedition which captured New Amsterdam and Delaware from the Dutch in 1664. Young Ogle received a grant of land in Delaware, married and had a family. His progeny have been prolific!
